CEO Letter: Our Approach
I love my job because I am surrounded by really smart and likable clients and team members. Our clients are a very diverse mix of some of the smartest people I know, and our team members are passionate about helping our clients make the most informed decisions possible. Every day, I get asked to solve questions I don’t know the answer to, and I get great feedback on the answers we do provide.
I founded our company because I saw a tremendous need for better analysis on the housing market. There is so much misunderstood, and often conflicting, data, and sometimes it is in direct contradiction to what we see in the market and hear from our clients. Figuring out what it all means is what we do best.
Many executives are forced to make huge multi-million dollar decisions every day based on limited data and analysis. We try to bring clarity to their decision-making process. We do this in two primary ways:
- Research: Our Research clients make decisions with confidence because we tell them what is really going on in the market. We purchase and analyze a ton of data. We talk to as many industry participants as we can. We make our clients’ lives easier by providing them with our opinion, which is supported by the best factual information we can find.
- Consulting: Our Consulting clients, many of which are also Research clients, want help with specific investment decisions. From strategy development to acquisition due diligence to performance improvement, our consultants add tremendous value.
Here is what I believe sets us apart:
- Management Expertise: Our team leaders are industry veterans who have learned a great deal from many financial successes and a few disasters.
- Speed: We are focused exclusively on housing, always have the latest macro data at our fingertips, work hard, talk to a lot of people, and are on a lot of airplanes. This results in great research done quickly and cost-effectively.
- Proprietary Tools: We have developed many tools to get to the answer quickly and to provide answers to questions that are otherwise not available, including our proprietary builder executive survey, several indices and forecasts, and a demand model by price range and household composition, to name just a few.
- Data Quality: We buy and analyze the best industry data we can find, and amortize the significant cost across all of our clients.
- Local Knowledge: We have partnered with a network of local experts all over the country who help us understand each market because they live there.
- Trusted Integrity: We are independent advisors. We don’t recommend investments or take contingency fees. Our incentive is to be correct, whether you like the answer or not.
- Customer Focus: Our clients know they can pick up the phone at any time. We continually improve our products and services based on customer feedback. With our tremendous network, we have also made a number of client introductions that have resulted in new business.
